A good morning routine – I absolutely loooove taking my time in the morning! I get up a couple of hours earlier to start my day in the right way.
Allowing time for yourself right after you wake up is super important. It reduces stress and gives you a bit of quality time before the day kicks off. And don’t underestimate the little things, like making your bed – your brain subconsciously registered this as a done task and you’re setting the scene for a productive day. I’m a big fan of skincare and always make sure to have enough time for my creams and serums in the morning. But it’s also a good time to be create, for writing or simply be still and let your thoughts wonder. The hours before work emails come in or you have to rush to work are so crucial as technically there shouldn’t be any distractions. This time is all yours and it is so so important to allow this time to practise things like gratitude – it’s easy to loose sight of all the things we’ve already accomplished because we keep busy, keep stimulating our brain and always aim for more – but sometimes it’s all about being in the moment, to reconnect with our mind and body. I have a step-by-step guide for a morning routine that you can download as a resource. Try and include some of those things and see how it makes you feel and how it perhaps changes the rest of the day.
As I said, I loooove a good morning routine and it personally gives me a lot of energy. Oh and a key aspect here – try to stay away from your phone! The most stressful factor! Going through WhatsApp messages or emails in the morning sets you into alert stage instantly – who do you need to get back to, what is the first meeting today. Same things with checking Instagram or the news – Again, the morning time is yours, not your friends, mum’s or boss!
Take control and be in control of those pressures minutes before everyone gets a piece of you! Try not to pick up the phone for the first 30 minutes of the day and see how it makes you feel.
